The Internet and Social Media

While statistics never tell the whole story, there's enough data on teenage technology to use to know that it's having an impact on the lives of today's students.

According to recent polls and studies...

  • Nearly 80% of teens say they check their phones hourly, and over 70% say they feel the need to immediately respond to texts and social media networking messages.
  • 92% of teens report going online daily, 24%almost constantly.”
  • Today’s teens spend, on average, more than nine hours a day consuming media—watching TV, listening to music, browsing the web, and playing video games.
  • Tweens (children 8-12) spend about six hours a day, on average, consuming media.
  • 50% of teens say they feel addicted to their mobile devices.
  • Approximately 25% of all driving accidents involve texting and driving.

The bottom line is…our youth are spending more and more time using technology—and it’s changing how our children are growing up.

Is it Bullying?

When someone says or does something unintentionally hurtful and they do it once, that’s

RUDE.

When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they do it once, that’s

MEAN.

When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they keep doing it even when you tell them to stop or show them that you’re upset—that’s

BULLYING.
